UNESCO World Heritage Sites

Colombia is home to sites and regions classified as natural and cultural heritage by UNESCO.

  • The port of Cartagena possesses the most complete set of fortifications in all of South America.

    • The Coffee Cultural Landscape is an exceptional example of a sustainable and productive cultural landscape. These landscapes reflect a centuries-old tradition from which some of the world's best mild coffees originate.

    • The coast of Malpelo Island is considered one of the most extraordinary diving sites in the world.

    • The Main Andean Road: The republics of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru share a common heritage of exceptional value: The Qhapaq Ñan or Main Andean Road. The Qhapaq Ñan, also known as the Main Andean Road, was the backbone of the political and economic power of the Inca Empire. The network of roads, more than 23,000 km long, connected various production, administrative, and ceremonial centers built over more than 2,000 years of pre-Inca Andean culture. Southern Colombia up to the city of Pasto is part of this network. Listed in 2014 by UNESCO.

  • Mompox, founded in 1540 on the banks of the Magdalena River, offers an exceptional image of what a Spanish colonial city once was.

  • In the Pacific, Los Katios National Park is located in the most biologically diverse area of America and harbours several endangered animal species.

    • The Tierradentro Archaeological Park groups monumental pre-Hispanic hypogea dating from the 6th to 10th centuries. The monuments attest to the social complexity and cultural richness of a pre-Hispanic society in the Andean region.
